Baku City Circuit

Get ready for the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix! This thrilling race will take place on Sunday, September 15, over 51 laps of the 6.003-kilometre Baku City Circuit.

Baku is the latest addition to the Formula 1 street circuit lineup, joining the likes of Monaco, Melbourne, and Singapore. The city hosted its first Grand Prix in 2016 as the European Grand Prix, followed by the inaugural Azerbaijan Grand Prix in 2017. That race saw a major upset with Daniel Ricciardo taking the win, followed by Valtteri Bottas and Lance Stroll, while Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel had a dramatic clash behind the Safety Car.

The Baku City Circuit offers a mix of wide, open sections and tight, twisty turns. The long main straight along the Baku shoreline is perfect for slipstreaming, often allowing cars to run three abreast into Turn 1. From there, the track winds through the narrow, historic streets of Icheri Sheher, passing by Baku’s medieval city walls. Like Monaco, any mistake here can be costly, and teams must balance downforce for the twisty sections with reduced drag for the straights.

Spectators at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix are in for a treat, as the city’s vibrant atmosphere and rich culinary scene, influenced by Turkish and Middle Eastern cuisine, add to the experience. The Absheron grandstand at the end of the main straight is a prime spot, offering views of cars braking from around 350km/h into the 90-degree Turn 1, where much of the overtaking happens. The Icheri Sheher grandstand provides a unique perspective, watching cars navigate the city gate section and speed through the Turn 13-15 complex.

Don’t miss out on the excitement of the 2024 Azerbaijan Grand Prix!
