Circuit of The Americas

Austin: The Heart of American Motorsport

The Circuit of The Americas (COTA), a masterpiece designed by Hermann Tilke in collaboration with the American architectural firm HKS, had a rocky start with several construction setbacks. However, the wait was worth it when 1978 F1 champion Mario Andretti inaugurated the track on October 21, 2012.

Formula 1 made its debut at COTA in 2012, marking the return of the United States Grand Prix after a five-year hiatus since the 2007 race at Indianapolis. The event drew over 100,000 spectators who witnessed Lewis Hamilton’s final victory with McLaren before his move to Mercedes in 2013.

The corners at COTA might seem familiar to racing enthusiasts. Turns 3 through 6 resemble Silverstone’s high-speed Maggotts/Becketts section or the S Curves at Suzuka, while Turns 12 through 15 mimic Hockenheim’s stadium section. The uphill run into the wide Turn 1 has already provided some thrilling overtaking moments, living up to the saying, “everything’s bigger in Texas.”

Austin is often hailed as America’s coolest city, known for its fantastic food and vibrant nightlife, all under the city’s unofficial slogan: “Keep Austin Weird.” When the racing action begins, you’ll be at one of the finest modern race tracks. With the American flair for partying, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss!
